Shakar Para (Sweet Indian Crackers)

Growing up, I have many fond memories of a popular Indian snack called Shakar Para. This crispy, bite-sized delight was especially prevalent during festive seasons like Diwali. The excitement of watching the dough turn into golden, crunchy diamonds is etched in my memory. Best enjoyed freshly made, they’re also easy to store in a jar. However, in my home, Shakar Para disappear quickly and rarely makes it to the jar for storage!

Sweet Indian crackers Sakhar Para

Shakar Para’s charm lies in its simplicity. Made with a basic dough of flour, ghee, and sugar, my version of these sweet Indian crackers includes a special twist—a hint of fragrant rose water and a dash of cardamom. This subtle infusion elevates the traditional recipe, adding a touch of aromatic elegance while keeping the snack as crunchy and satisfying as ever.

Whether enjoyed with a cup of chai for a quick midday indulgence or as a hands-on activity for your kids, Sakhar Para is one of those timeless classic treats that never go out of style.
