Kheema Flatbread - an Indian Ground Meat Sauce

Ground meat or Kheema, the Parsis call it ‘Kheemo’, is a popular Indian mince or ground meat preparation. In case, you’re wondering, in Indian food lingo, the term ‘kheema’ refers to uncooked and cooked ground meat. Back in India, the recipes and versions of Kheema are unique to each family and each corner of the country.

Some like it dry, served with Indian bread, while others prefer it curry-style, served over Basmati rice. For this creation, I have used my mom’s trusty Kheemo recipe tailored to be a sauce for the flatbread - add your own touch of veggies like corn and onion, pictured below. It’s one of my personal favorite ways to have Kheemo, and always a hit when I’ve served it to clients and friends.

Any ground meat of your choice works with this recipe; I have tried ground versions of lamb, goat, chicken & turkey with great success. I’ve even had the pleasure of trying out some of the new plant-based options. Plus Kheema freezes well; so cook a double batch of it, if you like.

For the crust, you can always make homemade pizza dough or get one at the store. At times, I switch it up and use Indian Naan flatbread in place of a pizza crust.
